1800s Severs from Southern Indiana/Indian?
In 1846 Carrah Ann Severs, (b1826, Indiana, d.6/12/1910 Warrick County, Indiana), married Tomas Wesley Leach. He was killed in the Civil War in 1864.Carrah and Thomas had a number of children that are listed in a paper my grandmother put together before she died, and I've listed below.
My Grandmother said that her grandmother was a full blooded Indian, a Cherokee. In looking at what I know of my family tree, I use to think the Indian heritage came from her father's side, now for reasons, I think it was Carrah. At this point I have little to go on, but wondered if there are other's descended from Carrah and Thomas who have a better link to this information? If Carrah were born in Indiana, was she a Miami Indian, perhaps? I have nothing on her parents. Why the name Severs if she were Indian?
Carrah's brohter's and sister's may include the following names, her parents may be included in this list:Gabriel Severs, John Severs, Namcy Severs, Solomon Severs (was in the same unit as Thomas Leach and was killed in the Civil War), Sally, Mary, Elizabth, Jenette and Emaline Severs.
The children of Carrah and Thomas included: William , Martha Lucinda (Crissy), Elizabeth and Betsy Leach.
If anyone has any information about the above family, please contact me.Thank you, Bonnie
