Charles,
Thanks a lot for all the info and your efforts to help. The family I am seeking has no direct ties to AL that I am aware of right now. Also, I would like to offer a minor correction for you (I think you have possibly merged two people inadvertently). The John W Severs that you mention in Craighead County, AR, on the 1870 census is a much younger man than you indicated and he was born in AR.Your post shows:
".2[1] John W Severs1825 -b: 1825 in Alabama in Craighead Co AR in l870 Censusd: in Had neice and Nephew named Govik
....+Nancy Tiller Loving
.*2nd Wife of [1] John W Severs:
....+Lucinda C Tiller1835 - 1880b: 1835d: Aft. 1880m: 22 Dec 1857 in Madison Co Al "
The John W.Severs (in Craighead County in 1870) was born about 1853 according to that particular census.Around 1875, he married a lady named Sarah Jane who I believe was likely the Sarah Jane Miller (dau of Joel Miller) who lived nearby his family on the 1870 census. They are found together on the 1880 Craighead County, AR, census. The same Joel Miller I mentioned married John W. Sever's older half-sister, Docia/Dosha Gilliam (maiden name), after she was widowed, and they can be found on the 1880 census together.I have a picture of Sarah Jane Sever's headstone in Pine Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR, as well as two of her children's.She had several children with John.Sarah Jane died in 1916 and there is no indication that I have found that John W. Severs ever remarried. He was a minister for about 50 years before his death in 1927, according to his obituary.I have not yet found his headstone, but I have a copy of his obituary. The 1900 census listed 4 children living for Sarah Jane who had given birth to 8 children.I do not have the names of the deceased children.John would have been a GrGr-Uncle to me.I am not aware of any Govik family members of John, but I do not know who all of his Gilliam half-siblings married. He had two full-blood brothers named Rufus and Albert. This family also used Sefers and Seffers as alternate spellings of their surname.I think all of the descendants today use Sefers or Seffers rather than Severs to spell the family name.
Again, thanks for your offer to help.I will be glad to share what I have on this John W. Severs (Sefers) with you or anyone else who asks.
Liz
