Thank you so much for this information. This makes the connection I was looking for and am thrilled that you have offered it to me. The Emphraim Severance from NH went there from Massachusetts, is that right? He is connected to the first Severances that came to the US, right? There seems to be plenty of information on those early Severances.

I found a piece on the Wisconsin Historical Society (surnames) website that says Ephraim Severance, I assume to be the son of Ephraim and Ruth, moved to Pierce Cty. WS and both he and his wife died there. Their information on his death (1895) must be wrong as the 1880 census has his wife Eliza living with her son, Fred, and she is listed as a widow. However, he must have made that move in his later years, because the 1860 census has him living in Bangor, where his son Thatcher lived. I am making the connections through the Thatcher name, because that is a family name for Elizs Merriam Severance and my grandfather was Clayton Thatcher Preble. His mother was Clara Bell Severance, her father was Thatcher Severance, and his father was Ephraim Severance, whose wife, Eliza Merriam was the daughter of Matthew Thatcher. The information you gave me gives me the connection to Emphraim and Ruth on down. That, along with the names of children that have gone down through the generations.
Thatcher Severance died in the civil war, 1864, someplace in VA, I think. His wife continued to live in Sebec, ME, Clara Bell being their last child. I have yet to find much information on her mother, Mary Berry.
Clara Bell died in her mid 20's and is buried in Barnard
Cemetery, Barnard, ME. Her three children were raised by her husband's mother, Emmeline Chase Preble.

Once again, I truly appreciate the information. I am already thinking about a trip to the cemetery to see if the stone is still there. The snow is almost gone here in Maine so I should be able to go soon. It is about 2 hours from my home.
