Sue, My mistake it was New Hampshire, I don't know why I typed in Maine. Much of the information I have was gathered by my great grandmother Helen Hussey Severance in the 1920's. Anyway the parents of your Ephraim were Ephraim Severance born in Kingston, NH in 1759 and died in Belmont, ME March 6, 1826 and Ruth Gould born in Sanbornton, NH May 1764 and died in East-Knox, ME April 18, 1936. I will now write what Helen Severance wrote down in her genealogy history: Ephraim Severance was born 1759. He was therefore only sixteen years old at his first enlistment on May 16, 1775. (See "Rev. War Pension Claim, W. 25172) (He was probably born in Kingston, NH) He married Ruth Gould at Rye, NH on Oct. 30, 1785. Both of them residents of Sanbornton, NH Ruth (Gould) Severance was born May, 1764. She died April 18, 1836 (Ref. Gravestone East-Knox, Maine). Ephraim Severance died March 6, 1825, in Belmont, ME, but was buried in East-Knox, where his gravestone recording also his wife's death, now stands. (1924) At the time of his enlistment in the Revolutionary War, fall of 1875, Ephraim Severance was an inhabitant of Kingston, NH. Later he resided with his family in Cook County, Maine, but set off in Waldo, Co. about 1800. Ephraim Severance and his wife, Ruth (Gould) Severance were known to have had children born in Sanbornton, NH as follows: a daughter, James born March 18, 1786, Jacob born 1788, Ephraim born 1800 (Probably others; almost certainly Benjamin to whom he gave a quit claim deed of Lot No. 48 as in the original survey "100 acres with buildings" and whom he probably lived with in Belmont, ME "for about three years before his decease." Possibly Joseph, who died in Belmont, ME October 11, 1814 For Gould lineage see page concerning Christopher Gould, Revolutionary Soldier (Note: H.H.S. Upon my return to Boston and Maine in 1924, I was successful in obtaining the data recorded re Ephraim Severance and family. See "State Papers, NH Vol. XV Rev. War Rolls, Vol. 2, pps 742-2. Also, see "Record of Hancock Co., Vol. 34, P. 407) As I pointed out earlier my great grandmother put together a book for our family about the Severances, Husseys, Goulds, and many others in New England that she was related to. Unfortunately the only reference she made to your Ephraim was the fact that he was born in 1800. I have never been to New England, so I have not had the opportunity to retrace her steps, but others in my family have. Every monument that she ever mentioned that they searched out was exactly like she described it. Consequently I believe her research was sound. She herself was born in Unity, ME in 1857 and died in Watertown, Mass. in 1955. She traveled to Montana to work as a school teacher and married her husband, Jacob Severance, there. She returned to New England in the late teens after his death and devoted much of her time to family research. Hope this helps you out. Notify Administrator about this message?
