Dear Robert,

No idea of the uncle's name or anything about him. Finding out who he was could be a real God Send if there were any realtives who might have more information than I did. My grandfather was born in 1896. From the ships passanger list I find a 17 year old going to Indianapolis with a man who is his uncle. The names don't fit but going to Indianapolis does. On the 2nd page I find that the Uncle is a non immigrant and I see that the younger one has been to the US. I called my brother and he believes that my grandfather made two trips, this is what he was told. That he came over when he was about 11 and stayed for some time, went home to his family and then returned when he was 16 with the uncle and never returned. I had the feeling he had actually lost contact with family. I have no idea if this is him but I don't see any trace of the name. I checked all passanger lists, line by line, of the SS Provence that arrived in 1912 to New York. Just in case the month was wrong. I checked on both the handwritten list and the list that is alphabetised on the Ellis Island website and there is no trace of them/

Did you see the WWI draft card? From that it appears that there is a Father's name and the next of kin's name. Those are names I never heard before but it also gives the name of the village Popovitz. As years went on he always said he was from something which sounded phonetically like it is spelled here.

I am in Colorado and hope that your night was well. I logged on in hopes that there was any reply from you. This goes back to possible fake names, a 17 year old traveling with a 44 year old Uncle and destination to Indiana. That is about as far as I can get if the Certificate is the true date of the arrival but would immigration have signed and certified a document if they could not find his name on that manifest? It does say that this 17 year old boy is Serbian, last address Turkey. It says with Uncle but gives the name of Stanoye and Stanko. In my baby book it has my paternal great grandmothers name written as Stanno. The person that I am looking at is Milako Stassik from Predegood Turkey only because I cannot find anyone else on the list who possibly could be him. I then decided to search the other lists as I said, line by line, and found no arrival on the same ship in 1912. I cannot find any record of Milako Stassik though after he reached the states though I did not put a huge amount of effor into that.

If from the draft form it is possible to read the uncle's name in Indianpolis perhaps there is family that might have some answers. Wish I would have started this 50 years ago! How sad as I have now read that this ship went down in the World War and all passangers were killed. I somehow feel it could be this ship though on his first form that he filled in it said "unknown" yet immigration certified that he came in on it on that date.

Let me know where you think I might explore next. There was an Indiana connection, I was born and raised there but he went back to Ohio and we spent our summers with him. The questions I did not ask will forever haunt me. Take care, Cher
