Dear Robert,

Thank you so much for your reply. What a great gift just to have someone to write to about this. Yes, I am speaking of the WWI draft papers which I found for Indianapolis which is as close as I could get to finding the name of a town and a father's name. He used to tell me the name of his village was something similar to that and also he always spoke proudly of being Serbian. He died in 1996 and had difficulty remembering many things of course later on. He lived most of his life in Cincinnati and I found him on the 1920 and 1930 census and his name is spelled in a variety of manners though usually they have spelled Milovan with the double 11 and at some point he droped the T from the Vekovitch. I obtained from immigration the Declaration of Intent after going through the court and it lists that he was born in Popouze, Serbia in 1928 and that he arrived on May 9th from Havre, France, but vessel unknown. They also sent the final papers not completed until 1931 which is Petition for Citizenship, signed and approved which note that the I 60 is attached and it gives the number of the document. This is a "certificate of arrival" which shows that he came into New York on May 4, 1912 on the Provence and all the papers then use this information. I cannot find any person who has a name similar to his on that ship list using Ellis Island or Ancestery. This is signed by the Secretary of Labor and is stamped as having been received in Ohio on a form which is dated and signed for immigration purposes. He arrived in the US with his uncle who I never met. I am wondering if he is the person listed on the WWI draft papers. There is also an Oath or Allegiance stating that renounces his alligance and fidelity to Alexander I King of the Serbs, Croats and Slovaks on November 31, 1931.

That is what I have come up with so far, not much. My father left when I was young and moved to California and I never knew him. I spent so much time with my grandfather and of course there are now a thousand unanswered questions! I appreciate any insight you can give and am going to check out the map link you sent now. Thanks again, Cher
