The reason they were listed as Croatian then crossed out is that this area was part of the Kingdom of Croatia, which in turn was under the rule of Austria Hungary. Now you can begin some real research! As the LDS Church (Mormon) Family History Library near you will be able to order the microfilm records for Nova Pazna for the Evangelical Church (what we in the US would call Lutheran) they cover the years 1807-1944 You can order and rent them at your local Family History Center for $5 where you may view and copy them. They will be in German and Latin, but you know the names and the LDS has a glossary for help. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp The census taker in 1910 wrote the name as it would have sounded... as German W sounds like vee.
