Banatski Brestovac is 28.5 kilometers ESE of Beograd NOT 70 Km! That area was never part of Serbia until after the end of WW I (1918)... although ethnic Serbs, Croats, Germans, Magyars, etc... populated the region... It was part of Hungary....but Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (more properly known as Habsburg Empire) the documents you are viewing typically will call the country whatever it was when the document (or copy) was made and not neccesarily what the place was when the person was born or when they left the region. Now we know why they taught us history and geography in HS... so we could do our family history in later life :) Here is a link that may help clear the air http://www.genealogy.ro/cont/1.htm Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Notify Administrator about this message?
