I have some info you might be interested in. Some of this is from "A History of California and an extended history of its southern coast counties" by James Miller Guinn and " History of the Harbor District of Los Angeles" by Ella A. Ludwig.
My interest came in researching my great great grandfather, Senator William H. Savage(San Pedro City Attny, etc), father of Katherine Agnes(3rd child- born in San Francisico) who married John Fletcher Dodson June 5, 1898 in the Church of St Mary Star of the Sea at San Pedro.
John F. was son of Arthur MacKenzie(b Philadelphia, 1819, d 1886?) and Reyes Dominguez(d-1885), Reyes's mother, Reyes and John were all born in the adobe house on the San Pedro Ranch(Dominguez adobe). They had 12 children of which 3 were surviving by this book date (in 1920s?) John's birthdate, April 8, 1867. He and his brother(James) were contracters(cement and grading) and you can see the Dodson name on many of the sidewalks in LA. Died July 3, 1921.
John's brother James born in LA Feb 26, 1861. Married Rudecinda Sepulveda, in 1881. (She was grand daughter of Delores Sepulveda, original owner of Palos Verdes Rancho. Father was Jose Diego Sepulveda).
The surviving daughter of Arthur and Reyes Dodson, Emma (Thompson) was residing in Hobart Mills, Nevada county, CA...
Anyway, these two sources are fascinating. Hope this helps!
