Can anyone help?
I have searched for this ggggrandmothers maiden name for years and now know it was Sentell. It was discovered on the death certificate of one of her daughters.
According to census records Lutilda Sentell was born about 1813/16 in South Carolina, married William Floyd Deloach about 1833/34. They are living in Shelby Co., Alabama in 1850/60, according to census records.
William Floyd Deloach was born 10/9/1808 in Edgefield Co. South Carolina and was the son of Thomas Deloach Jr., both father and son were Baptist ministers.
Their children were;
1. Mary Ann, b. 11/7/1835, married Enoch Whatley,
2. Amanda Katherine, b. 4/4/1837, married William Clinton DeShazo,
3. Salome, b. abt 1838
4. Martha Clementine, b. 11/14/1840, married James Hill Verner, my gggrandparents.
5. John Sentell, b. abt 1844, married Emma Ellen ?????
6. BunaVista, b. abt. 1849, married Albert F.W. Tidwell
Amanda DeShazo's death certificate, Shelby Co., Alabama, 4/15/1931, stated her mother's maiden name was Lutilda Sentle born South Carolina.
Would anyone have any idea who Lutilda's parents were? There were Sentell's living in Shelby Co. at the same time William Floyd and Lutilda Sentell Deloach were living there, but the census film for Shelby Co. Al. that was in our library has disappeared and it will be months before they get another one. I had studied the census records for Shelby Co. and if my memory serves me correctly there was a Lewis Sentell living in Shelby Co. but cannot be positive. They were probably related but don't know how.
