Dear Roni,

Thanks very much for the additional information on Hannah Senior.

In the 1841 Census on Ancestry.com I did not find Hannah but found Ann Senior as follows:

Living at Scholes, Cartworth, Civil Parish Kirk Burton, Hundred Agbrigg (Upper Division), Yorkshire registration district Huddersfield, sub registration New Mill:

Jonn Swallow, Head, Unmarried, 35, Woollen Weaver, born Yorkshire
Ann Senior, 35
John Senior, 13
Mary Senior, 1 (Mary Ann in 1851)
Sam Senior, 3
Since there were only 5 pages for this portion on the Cartworth I went through them for other Seniors – none, only 2 other Swallow families.

I did find Hannah in the 1851 Census as follows:

Living at 72 Scholes, Civil Parish Cartworth, Yorkshire, England. Registration District Huddersfield, sub Registration district New Mill – same place as in 1841, above. The summary changed the Civil Parish name to Cartworth from Kirk Burton but both had Cartworth on the top of the actual census form.

Jonathon Swallow, Head, Unmarried, 47, Woollen Weaver born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
Ann Senior, Housekeeper, Unmarried, 42, House Keeper, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
John Senior, Son, Unmarried, 21, Woollen Weaver, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
Hannah Senior, Daughter, 17, Woollen Weaver, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton,
Sam Senior, Son, 13, Woollen Piecer, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
Alexander Senior, Son, 8, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
Mary Ann Senior, Daughter, 11, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton
George Senior, Son, 8 months, born Yorkshire, Parish of Kirkburton

Interestingly, at 71 Scholes lived Carolyn Swallow, 31, Unmarried plus her children,
May, 8; George, 6 and Richard, 4

Sam and John ages here match those you found in the Church Baptism records so this looks quite good and Hannah must have been off being looked after by someone else that evening.

I know Hannah Senior died before 1871 as she is with her husband, Alfred Boothroyd and their 2 sons, Ben and Friend, in 1861 then in 1871 Alfred has the 2 boys and a house keeper, Mary Ann Lockwood. I ordered what I thought was Hannah’s death certificate but it was a Hannah Boothroyd married to William Boothroyd, a coal agent living at Wood Royd, Honley. Seems she died 2 March 1867, registered 4.

The other Hannah Senior’s which I found were:

1)       Hannah Senior born 1834 in Almondbury, daughter to George and Lydia Senior living in New Street, Honley, Huddersfield in 1841

2)       Hannah Senior born 1834 Dewsbury daughter to John, 46, and Mary, 42, Senior living in Pummil Hill, Dewsbury, Holy Trinity in 1851 – not her as found her again in 1861, unmarried.

3)       Hannah Senior born 1834 daughter to Samuel, 30 in 1841, and Ann, 35 in 1841, Senior living at Staincliffe, Batley in 1841 and Kilpin Lane, Batley in 1851.

4)       Hannah Senior born 1835 daughter to John, 35, and Sarah, 35, Senior living in Coponheight, Batley in 1841

5)       Hannah Senior born 1833 in Kirkburton daughter of Benjamin, 32, and Lydia, 30, Senior living in Hepworth, Barnside in 1841

Only the Hannah living with Jonathon Swallow seems to be born in New Mill -- The marriage certificate I have for her and Alfred Boothroyd does not show a father for her ( Vicar was Lewis Jones, Witnesses were William Garner and Benjamin James Garner). The death cert I received, although not her, does not include details of the parents any way. So, I guess using strong guesswork is about all that can be accomplished here, no real firm link, just high probability.

Is there a way to get a copy of the baptism record you found of Hannah? Thanks again for your help.
Do you wish copies of any of the above documents?

Lee
