Benjamin Duncan North Carolina Any info?

I'm trying to find out where Benjamin Duncan may have served. His wife filed a pension for him in 1897 after he had died. She said he was a vet of the Indian Wars serving 4 yrs and getting out in 1837. He was in married in Pireway, North Carolina by 1842 and died there. Any clues I could follow? I got the pension info from the National Archives but they didn't know his unit or any officer names just his service time.
Thanks
Tom Duncan
