Carole,
I continue trying to trace my family in England. My gr grandfather left Portsmouth for Australia on 18 June, 1876, arriving Port Adelaide, South Australia on 1 September 1876. Shipping records show family as John Selway (C1842) a carpenter, wife Anna nee Gare (C1845) children John (C1863) a laborer, Bessie (C1864),Alice(b1868) and William Joseph (b1874).
Later investigation into hospital records here suggest that John Selway came from Somersetshire and was 52y.o in 1890, therefore could have been born C1838. Other records suggest his wife may have been Hannah
nee Gane rather that 'Anna nee Gare'. Also suggests that eldest son was John Henry Selway.
Have you any information which may help me out please? My email address is veemess@chariot.net.au.
Regards.
Vernon Selway.
