I have found the marriage record of Jeremiah Selvage and Mary Kelley in Augesta co VA dated 16 Oct 1787. Jeremiah signs as "Jeremiah Savage." The clerk calles him "Jeremiah Salvage", Mary signs her own consent ("having neither Parents or Guardan"). Mary calls him "Jeremiah Salvage." The signature of this man appears to be the same as the man who signs later land records as "Jeremiah Selvedge." Have worked on this line many years. This is the first REAL breakthrough. It fits the family story of Mary Kelley's being found after an Indian raid during the French & Indian War in which her parents were killed. I descend from Jeremiah and Mary's daughter Nancy who m first John Oaks, later George Selvedge - therefore she is in her father's will as "Nancy Selvage." These spellings go many direction. Glad to share.
