Our line is working connections to three Hessian soldiers who stayed in America by the name of Schmelzer. I'm wondering if you have ever interacted with any of our line regarding possible name variations? My surname of Smeltzer is but one letter away from Seltzer and our family name of Smelser is but one letter away from Selser. We do have a family Y-DNA project underway. Do you know of any of your Seltzer or Selser or ?? lines who have participated in a Y-DNA testing process? It would be great to compare.

Our three Hessian soldiers were:

Johannes Jakob Schmelzer
Johannes Georg Schmelzer
Johan Leonhart Schmelzer

The first two were likely brothers due to the fact that they both came from the same village and left the ranks apparently at Yorktown only 2 days apart in 1781. The third soldier, Leonhart (Leonard) was still on the military roll until 1783.
