The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, September 23, 1908 DR. F.W. SELLS was arraigned in the district court this (Wednesday) forenoon to answer to an indictment for assault with intent to commit rape upon the person of STELLA HARTMAN, of Clearfield. He pleads not guilty and gave bond for appearance. The complainant is from Clearfield and was visiting with relatives at the time she alleges the crime was committed. She is a cousin of MR. ROSS SMITH and was with them at the time. She claims that an anesthetic was administered to her during an examination at the hospital where she had gone to consult DR. SELLS and that the crime followed. DR. SELLS denies strenuously any guilt. The case will not come up for hearing before the November term. The relatives of the girl, who belongs to a prominent family and has always borne the best reputation, are very bitter and the community is deeply stirred. Either the complaining witness or the defendant have been irreparably wronged. -- OSCEOLA SENTINEL. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert March 30, 2005 iggy29@rnetinc.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
