The Jefferson Co. Sellers came in a wagon train to what is now Birmingham-Shades Valley- from Spartanburg, SC with other families like Saultor and Morris.Below is some infor I gathered yesterday while researching.
Putting the peices together is a big problem, but family names can be used a clues. They tend to use similar names for generations- especially in the old days. Now it is modish to INVENT names, which is a shame.
There are Morris names on this page also- just keep going down for more Sellars/Cellars. When you are researching -you have to type in every spelling you can think of. That was before spelling got uniform. They did not care back then about the spelling so much and lots could not even spell their own name anyway.
The best thing is to print this out and make notes to see if you can get some leads.

: [ALABAMA-L] Cemetery Listing
Date:6/18/99 2:02:33 AM Central Daylight Time
From:[email protected]
Hello List:
I hope this is the correct list to post my inquiry.Does anyone know
thename and/or owner of the small cemetery (entirely fenced in) sitting
amongbusiness establishments on Green Springs Hwy, Homewood, AL behind
LaVoy'sResturant. The cemetery has fallen on hard times. The grass is
overgrowncovering some of the markers. It seems to be full of beer bottles and
trash.
It makes my heart hurt and I would like to know how to help.I am all
fortaking my lawnmower over and cleaning it up BUT I am afraid that
someonewould object (law enforcement etc.).I did note that some of the
surnames
were: SELLERS, STARR AND DURHAM. I wondered if there are others out
therepossibly hunting their loved ones resting place and don't know of this
cemetery's existance? It is difficult to tell but I believe that there
areabout 30 or so graves some dating back to 1850 and early 1900.
Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Esther at [email protected]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESTHER, thank you for caring - will send this to our SELLERS members who
may be looking for this info
This appears to be JEFFERSON CO, AL -possibility of MONROE CO
DID you happen to copy ANY of the SELLERS names? Thanks, marie, iowa
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Marie:
Thanks for the response.No, I'm sorry I didn't copy the names -- I
entered the cemetery through an open gate.I was a little afraid that I might be
arrested for trespassing if the police came.I had on shorts/sandles and
thus was afraid with all the weeds (poison ivy) possibly snakes etc. that
I
made a quick look see.I think I need to return (this time prepared with
long jeans/boots, with paper and pencil and see what I can find. There
were two very unusual graves - at least unusual to me.They appear to have
buried the individual on top of the ground in concrete tomb type thing, with the
marker sat on top of that.I know if probably wasn't concrete but it was
white mortar stone stuff.I don't know when concrete was invented.
Anyway,
I'm rambling on -- sorry.I hope to hear from someone who maybe can help
or at least guide me.My sister says that I need to call the Boy Scouts
(apparently they might consider taking it on as a project (good deed) and
would receive a merit badge. However, I am afraid to involve them until I
know whether or not anyone will object.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Esther at [email protected]
