I feel like I'm grasping at straws, but here goes: I am researching my gggg grandfather, Stephen SANDS. I just found out Stephen was born about 1761 in Connecticut (British Archives - www.catalogue.nationalarchives.gov.uk). Stephen was a Loyalist during the Revolutionary War; a Queen's Ranger. I know that Queen's Rangers were first recruited in Westchester County, New York and Fairfield County, Connecticut in 1776. I keep coming across the surname Selleck and the name Sands Selleck when go to the Fairfield County website. In Malcolm Sands Wilson's 1949 book "Descendants of James Sands of Block Island" is information regarding Captain James Sands' son Samuel (born 1656). Samuel had a daughter named Sarah who married Nathan Selleck of Stamford, Connecticut on 17 October 1713. Their children are not listed in the book. (There is a reference to page 61, but I don't have a copy of that page.) I don't know anything about Sands Selleck, but I'm guessing he's connected to Nathan and Sarah Sands Selleck. Is that correct? My gggg grandfather went to New Brunswick after the War. His son, also named Stephen Sands, is listed on the 1850 Eaton Grant, Aroostook, Maine census as age 72 born in Rhode Island (www.upperstjohn.com). Stephen Sands, born 1761 in Connecticut, is not listed in Malcolm Sands Wilson's book so I'm not certain that my gggg grandfather is of that Sands family. By the way, at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick website, there is a 1786 land petition listed that includes the name of Hinman Selleck. Notify Administrator about this message?
