hello,
I just wanted to give an update on some additional information I have discovered on a Sell family from Louisville, KY.Recently I had a chance to visit with my grandmother (Sell) who is now 92 years of age and together we talked about her family and reviewed her father's family bible. Her father was William Herbold Sell, b. Aug 6, 1882 in Louisville Kentucky, and mother was Katie Florence Ware b. Aug 12th, 1884 also in Louisville. In the family bible, William records his parents as John Sell (no birth/death dates given) and mother was Minnie (no maiden name given) b.1845 d.March 26, 1923.I saw another poster on Louisville, KY Sell families indicate that the name was Zell, then changed to Sell. The family bible I reviewed did not mention the name Zell, but the family is listed in the 1880 census under the surname Zell when I searched familysearch.org.I was able to confirm the children born to John and Minnie were Emma b.abt1865, Katie b.abt 1867, Charles b.Aug 1871, John b.abt 1874, Mary b.abt 1876, Edward b.abt1878, Arthur b.abt 1879, William b.Aug 6, 1882, and lastly Lillian b.abt 1884.My grandmother recalled all of these aunts and uncles except Mary. The wife listed in this 1880 census was Amelia, who I am guessing was also known as Minnie (but this needs confirming too).Oddly, in the 1870 census John and Amelia show up under the surname Sell.Consistantly, the census data (1870, 1880, 1900) records that John was born in Germany, and Minnie(Amelia) was born in Kentucky, but had German born parents beyond that. The 1870 census seems to suggest John was from the State of Hessen in Germany, and Minnie's (Amelia) father was from Elsace Germany, and mother from Baden, Germany per the 1880 census. This family remains a mystery to me beyond this information.I know that my grandmother was born Lutheran, and her parents were married 09/26/1904 at a church called St. Peters Church Parsonage 13 in Louisville, a church I could not find when I did an online search.I would really like to find out more information on this family so if anyone has any additional information or suggestions on finding more information please let me know.
Thank You,
Chris
