Hi Kim,
I would more than greatly appreciate any information that you can provide re the family of Joseph W. Self, as looking for the family of my mother's father has been a huge brick wall for several years...
A couple of reasons that I'm pretty sure that Joseph W. and his wife Josephine are my g-grandparents and that their son, William / Willie Self is my mother's father is because once I saw the information provided in the census records, I immediately remembered that my mother once said that her paternal grandmother was named Josephine aka "Jo". Also, I know that my mother's brother "Tom" was named after her father's brother, and he had a sister named Mattie (of whom I have a picture of), and a relative name Lula - all of which are listed in the census records as the family of Joseph W.
Additionally, I know that William / Willie's father worked in the mines with my mother's maternal grandfather and that the family was from Alabama, but was living in Texas when William was born, then returned to Alabama - information that is also provided in the census.
