Benjamin Self is on the 1866 state census for Walker Co., Ala. with four daughters and no wife. The early marriage records for Walker County have not survived and I've found no marriage listing for him. He was in 1st Ala USA Calvary during the Civil War. It's possible you might find a widow's pension application for Elizabeth. There has also been a book published on the 1st Ala that might be of help to you.
