My name is John Michael Bland. I live in NC.
My mother was Mildred Lucille SELF Bland of Darlington,SC. born Oct. 1921, Darlington, SC.
Her father, my Grandfather, was William Andrew SELF, born 1881, Bishopville, Lee County or Darlington Co. SC. in the early 1880's. He was married to Sallie Anderson of Kershaw Co. SC. born abt 1885. I have no further info on Sallie.
My Great Grandfather was George Washington SELF, born abt 1845, Kershaw Co. SC., who was married to Eliza Ann Johnson, born abt 1839?, Sumter Co. SC.
As far as I know they had seven children, one of which was my Grandfather, William Andrew SELF. He had three brothers. One Uncle that I remember well was Purdy SELF, born abt 1889, who was married to an Aunt Dora. Also an Uncle by the name of Lemon Self, born abt 1876. And I believe there was an Uncle by the same name as my Great Grandfather, George Washington SELF, born abt 1872.
I would like to hear from any family members who have more information about my mother's family. The name may have been re-spelled as SELPH or SELFE. I know there is still family in the Hartsville, SC area. Please get in touch so I can call or email you. Thank you, Mike Bland
