Hickory UM member was retired school bus driver Evelyn J. Malenky, 1639 Hofius Lane, Hermitage, was in her residence when she was called home to be with the Lord on Monday (5-26-08, Memorial Day) at 8:28 a.m. following an extended illness. She was 80. Mrs. Malenky was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1928 in Transfer, the daughter of Eugene M. Hogue and Edna L. Adams Hogue. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Hickory High School in 1946. She worked at one time for Loblaws grocery store in Greenville in their meat department. She also worked for the former Bortner Bus Co., South Pymatuning Township, as a school bus driver and retired in 1992 with 22 years of service. She was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage. Mrs. Malenky enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with her husband and together they fished the lakes of Canada and later spent their winters in sunny Florida. She especially enjoyed lighthouses and collecting lighthouse memorabilia. Her husband Andrew Malenky whom she married on July 10, 1948 survives at the residence. She is also survived by: her daughter, Melanie A. Rodgers, Kinsman, Ohio; two sons, Douglas A. Malenky and his wife Kim of Transfer; and Scott B. Malenky and his companion Geralyn, Hermitage; a sister, Phyllis Reichard, Transfer; two brothers, David Hogue and his wife Audrey; and Earl Hogue and his wife Fanny, both Mercer; three grandchildren, Douglas Rodgers, Carley Malenky, and Scott Malenky; and two great grandchildren, Samantha Rodgers and Alexis Rodgers. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Madeline Frazer, Lovida McClearn, Rose Cover, and Ida Dehner; and one brother, John Hogue.
