"The Red Book of the Lordship of Segrave" - call # British Museum MS Harley 4748 Francis Segrave, the sixth son of James who married Mary, daughter of Alexander Eustace, was though to have died as a youth. Further research found a will of Francis Segrave of Dublin who mentioned his only son and his two daughters. In King James' Army List by D'Alton, a Francis Segrave is mentioned as a Captain in Sir Maurice Eustace's Infantry and his brother, Laurence, as his lieutenant. Reference is also made of a Captain Francis Segrave of Fryarstown and Roseberry, Kildare and Gilbert Segrave of Ballyhack, Meath, who were his cousins. They all appear on the list of those attained and their estates confiscated. This is but a possibility for the family of Francis Segraves Francis is listed in Deed book #1 Isle of Wight Co. VA 1694. He is also listed as a witness to the will of Thomas Stasey in Albermarle Co. NC in 1697. Francis leaves a will dated the 9th day of 1725, Isle of Wight co. VA Will Bk. pg 56. Other claims as the first family of Segraves to immigrate to America are found in: "Genealogy of the Seagrave Family from 1725-1881" -John Seagrave "Genealogy of Seagraves, Sampson and Kindred Lines" --Faye S. Seagraves. In her writings she quotes Steven' "History of Cape May, New Jersey" as making reference to William Seagraves in New Jersey in 1712. Could this be the William listed in the Will of Francis? Notify Administrator about this message?
