I'm not sure how early any marriages occurred , but it's interesting that your ancestors lived in the same street in Knottingley as my Moorhouse ancestors (who were mariners, ship owners, limestone merchants and ropemakers.) Aire Street is near the canal used for transport in Knottingley (near Pontefract). The only Sefton/Moorhouse marriage I know of is our ancestor William Moorhouse who married Mary Sefton in 1773 in Pontefract.I think her fathers name was William Sefton (not Robert) and I think he was a "boatman"/farmer & limeburner.I think they made their money through limeburning and transporting the lime to the various trade areas .I don't think the stories of Robert Sefton giving Mary a dowrey of her weight in gold were true..It is said Robert Sefton was a "giant" of around 8 foot , but he's not listed amomgst the tallest men of the time..(There's a website on this). I will provide more information on the Askam names in Knottingley in the Askam forum.Perhaps one of the Askam's married an aunty of hers?Mary Sefton did not have any sisters, only brothers.Sue
