Just to let you know perhaps it will help with your research. Last night I checked the Bruce County Atlas for 1880 Arran Twp. and found John and his father Alexander listed, note spelling of last name.

McNabb, Alex. (Elsinore) Con 12 Lot 10 farmer 43
McNabb, John (Elsinore) Con 13 Lot 10 farmer 83

Checked a map and Con 12 Lot 13 is right on Arran Lake

Also found in the Biographical Directory of Bruce County Subscribers
Arran Twp. pg. 101
"McNabb, Alexander, farmer. real Estate consists of 152 acres, being Lot 10, Con. 12, Arran Tp., and other land. P.O. address Saugeen. Born in Scotland 1804. Date of settlement in Bruce Co., 1853"
