I am looking for family information on my great-grandfather, Charles Oscar Seeber. The facts that I do know are that he met my great-grandmother, Ingrid "Ida" Olauson in Rankin, IL in 1899 and 3 1/2 months later married her in Peoria, IL. He was a cabinetmaker, and died in Peoria in 1933. He could neither speak nor understand Swedish. The information that he gave the family which I have been unable to verify or prove at all are the following: -Charles was born to August Gustave and Mathilda Seeber on 6 Nov 1875 in Liverpool, England (no records found), but lived in Sweden after his birth. His father was a Swedish Army general (not true) who used the name Von Sagerbord (not found in Sweden). His parents were both born in Sweden. Charles had twin brothers. Charles was sent to the US by himself when he was 9 years old and sent to live with an aunt and uncle in either IN or OH. There is a plaque in Springfield IL honoring his service in the Spanish-American War (not true). My great-grandmother always said that you couldn't believe a word he (Charles) said, and that has been my findings so far as I have searched. A researcher in Sweden has been unable to find any family similar to the information. I believe that Charles was probably born in the US, probably illigitamely and made up his life story. None of his children remembered ever meeting or hearing of any of his relatives. If anyone has come across a lost Charles Seeber, please let me know! I am sure that there are threads of truth to some of his stories, but..... Any suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated! Sue Fritz
