earliest known ancestress?
This is my latest attempt to claim an earliest known ancestress for my maternal line (U5b2b). In any case, her first name was Margaret. After thinking it was Margaret Zouche for a while, I've come to thhe conclusion that was erroneous. I belong to the ancestry.com site, and their many and long lists can lead one astray.
Having said all that, the nitty gritty is this. Margaret Sedgewick (assume Sedgwick), was born about 1589 in West Riding, Yorkshire, England (the year after the Spanish Armada). Her father was Christopher Sedg(e)wick, and her mother only given as Elizabeth. They only seem to have had two children, Margaret and Isabel.
Margaret married Capt. William Powell of Jamestown, Virginia about 1620. It was the second marriage for both. Their daughter Alice Powell was also my ancestress. Well, I don't have a paper trail going back that far. But my rather rare U5 HVR1+HVR2 match narrows it down. My combined "paper trail" and HVR1+HVR2 match only goes back to North Carolina in 1760. However, that line originated in Virginia.
