In Reply to: Sedgwicks - Bury (near Manchester) England. by Jon Sedgwick of 911

My grandfather was known as Jack Sedgwick. He was born in 1896. Where? We think in West Yorkshire. We know he married Jane Ann Cooney in Newcastle-upon-Tyne at St. Mary's Catholic Church. His father on the marriage cert., is deceased, his name was John Sedgwick (General Carrier). The story is that Jack left his wife in Newcastle and went to Leeds (1928?) looking for work to support his wife and their five children. My mother, Mary Sedgwick, was a baby in arms and my grandma refused to move to Leeds. So Jack, along with two of his sons ( George & John Ernest) went off and nothing was heard of them until I started to do the family tree three years ago. Nicky Cunningham found my two uncles George and John Ernest Sedgwick. George was born 21 Jan 1924, died in Bury Dec 1984. John Ernest was born 24 Nov 1920 and died in Bury May 1993. There are just two of Jack & Jane Ann's children alive. My mother, Mary and her brother Kenneth ( he was adopted and his surname is Hastwell). Their sister Elizabeth is deceased. I promised my uncle Ken that I would not give up until I had solved our family mystery. I have nearly completed this task and hope that your link is also my link. I have just got in touch with the Bury News and they are to print my letter asking for help to trace my Sedgwicks in the Bury area.

I hope that at last I have found the missing link.

Regards

Doreen
