Update....after checking in "family history" book my mother-in-law filled out 25 years ago.....
Walter H Seddon (my husband's maternal grandfather) had one older brother William Percival Seddon. My mother-in-law believed her father Walter H came to New York City when he was 6 years old. Born in Blackburn. 1893 or 1894

His father William Seddon raised on a horse breeding farm.

What I've read about the area is that it was largely a textile producing area which would correspond with the fact the Walter H. was a textile designer. BUT

When speaking with my sister-in-law today seemed to recollect being told that the great grandmother complained about the difficulty in keeping the children clean for church because of the coal.
She thought or perhaps assumed that the Seddons were coal miners.??????
