Hello:
My gr. gr. grandfather was living on a neighboring ranch close by the William Harrison Secrest family in 1863.On 3 May 1863 Samuel Everett Rogers was returning home from spending the night at the Secrest home for protection during a time of unsettled Indian raids when he was set upon by a group of Indians who had stolen horses from his son, Jim Rogers, ranch. The Indians chased and caught him, scalped and killed him.His son was away at the time serving in the Texas State Troopers.Samuel's daughter in law found his body and buried it under a small grove of live oaks. He was about 55 years old at the time of his death. Today there is a plaque relating the incident and the gravesite is fenced in.It lies near Carlton on what was at that time called the Rocky Ranch.
