There is first hand evidence from Laura Secord's daughter, Harriet, and her siblings, that Laura left from her Homestead in the early morning of 22 June 1813.We even know what she was wearing. We also know from Laura's own words that she stopped in St. Davids -- and we now know where in that village -- to see Hannah (Annatie DeFreest Secord, widow of Stephen).
The story that she started from St. Davids was first introduced by James FitzGibbon in his 1837 (3rd) certificate, which was penned from recollection. It was his mistake and he really did not have the evidence, nor was it relevant to him.
The new book on "Laura Ingersoll Secord. A Heroine and Her Family" is available this month and covers these details.
