I am looking for James Sears.I am a descendant of James Sears born in Dutchess County NY, date unknown, and moved later to Chenango County, during the period of its earliest settlement. He cleared a farm, established a sawmill, and lived to the advanced age of eighty-six years.
One of his children was my great great grandfather. James Sears & Hester Betty Rutan.James Sears was born in Orange Co. New York 1791.He died in Mamakating Sullivan Co., New York in 1888.His wife Hester Rutan was born approximately 1810, in New Jersey, & died a few weeks prior to James in 1888.They had the following children.Margaret (Sears) Knickerbocker born in 1826, settled in Phillipsport.Abigail (Sears) Bennett born in 1829, settled in Nebraska.Elizabeth (Sears) McKinney born in 1832, Isaac born in 1834, married Jane Ann Terwilliger settled in New York, Deborah (Sears) Cudney born in 1836 , Stephen James, he was known by his middle name of James, he was born at Phillipsport, Sullivan Co., N. Y., 1838,married Lucretia Crossman Sept 7 1866, he worked on the Delaware & Hudson Canal, he moved to Nebraska, lived in Missouri for a short period,& then moved to Alexandria Township, Leavenworth Co. Kansas, until his death, in 1933.Mary was born 1843, married Cudney ?, Alfred was born 1846, Married Eliza H ?, settled in Kansas, Charles was born in 1849, married Mary E. ?, he died at age 36,and William was born 1853, married Sarah F. Crossman.All the children were born in Phillipsport, Sullivan Co. New York.
