Niles took his law degree in 1848 at Fowler Law School Cherry Valley Otsego Co Co., NY. He opened a law office in Mo soon after, and joined the Gold Rush in 1849 to Calif with his friend Charles Mulford. They sold onions and potatoes and prospected. He returned in 1853 to NY to marry his first cousin. They returned to Ca including Mary's brother, Addison Niles. Niles was District Att'ty, Judge, State Senator in 1875, & Chief Justice 1886-1888. Cousin Addison was an Associate Justice (1872-1880). The town of Niles (now p/o Fremont) is named for Addison and is the where the Niles Depot is located and is where the first movies were made.
