I'm a descendant of William B. Swan through his son William Swan and Sarah Haley. I'm not sure if I descent from Martha Jane Sergeant or Sarah Taylor. Several years ago I was communicating with an individual who had done extensive research on this line and here is an excerpt from the email she sent me:

------------BEGINNING OF EXCERPT___________________
I show Wm B - div. Martha J 1849 & md Sarah TAYLOR
29nov1850. Phyllis Swan thought that Sarah had been md
#1-Wm Gordon TAYLOR. I looked for him in Fr Co (not Coffee)
& really couldn't find him. I did find a Wm G on Fr Co 1840 Cen:
112001 3000010011

By 1850 Fr Co TN Cen - I find a
Sarah TAYLOR 35 NC
Wm T 2 TN
Martha TAYLOR 4 TN
Jas 10 TN
Geo TAYLOR 13 TN lvg in
H/H#980 of Dixon JETSON.

Wm B was in H/H #973 alone - not far away - huh!

1849 State vs Wm B & Sally TAYLOR for lewdness

By 1860 Fr Co TN census - I find Sarah SWAN with Jas 12, Martha 12, Wm R(poss B?)10, Sarah E 7, C C (f)6, Samuel B 4.

Lots of questions here -but you know how the census work was.

-----END OF EXCERPT--------------------------

All of this is kind of confusing. I'm not sure if William is the son of Martha Jane Sergeant or Sarah Taylor. Dates are very confusing concerning William's date of birth.
