Grant - thanks I had put two and two together just after I posted the message. I have a relative living in Dorset so will see if they can go over to Heytesbury to follow up the headstones. The parish archives should have some valuable information as well. It was only from the 1830s that a central record was kept for Gt.Britain (Births, marriages and deaths). Here are some other Searchfields contemporary and otherwise:- Brad Searchfield an executive with CN Railways (Canada). John Searchfield Professor Emeritus of Music (The University of Calgary). Emilie Searchfield author of childrens' books [published betweeen 1876 and 1900] Catalogue of Books British Museum Library. Southwell Papers in Yale University Library - Anonymous manuscript: Searchfield, William 2 ALS to Sir Robert Southwell, Tercena Island 1669 Jun 29, Jul 13. Tercena is Portuguese and there is a district in Macau called Tercena. Bishop Roland Searchfield was married to Anne Hutchinson. They had two or more sons.He was buried in Bristol Cathedral[1622]. Do not as yet have a place of birth. Could be a link to the Searchfields in the West of England (ie. Wiltshire). I have also located a Richard Searchfield (Web page)who runs a private investigation agency on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Richard was an Inspector in the Metropolitan Police. I recall seeing him interviewed in a BBC TV series about the Met. Police some years ago. He is obviously a London Searchfield probably from SE or NE London. When I have more time I will try and make contact with the other Australian Searchfields and get them involved with the Searchfield Geneaology Page. I have info on other Searchfields who fit into the 'jigsaw' puzzle somewhere. The picture is beginning to emerge of members of the clan with diverse backgrounds and talents.
I will probably have to tone down my activities as I am in the middle of preparing an academic dissertation due towards the end of the year. We are the only Searchfields in the Sydney phone book [4 million pop.] Keep in touch.

Regards - Chris Searchfield
