At Vermilliion, 30 miles east of Yankton, is a series of Yankton newspapers on microfilm. There was more than one Yankton newspaper but I don't have a list of what the USD holdings are. You should be able to get a list from them with an e-mail to the I. D. Weeks library. I recall there being a problem with "some" of the Yankton newspapers. They are "double vision" (for lack of a better term) and very hard to read. Just a warning.
Yankton may have newspapers on microfilm too. I would look for a Yankton home page and a link to their library.
Yankton should also have a 100th anniversary book and perhaps a 75th and 125th which would/should be on file at the library. A name search would be worthwhile.
There is a Dakota Territorial Museum at 610 Summit in Yankton. Their phone is 605-665-2898. There is a Yankton County Museum too but it has the same address and phone as the above.
Hope I helped. dj
