States: South Dakota: Yankton
I am trying to find out information on Picotte and Cournoyer family members. Much is tied to the Yankton Agency and reservation. I found a nice writeup about Charles in the 1884, A.T. Andreas, "Historical Atlas of Dakota" (ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/sd/andreas/yankton.txt). Charles represented a number of important Yankton Sioux during treaty talks, particularly in the 1857 treaty that generally redefined the Yankton reservation boundaries around Greenwood, Lake Andres, Marty, etc. The rootsweb (SDGENWEB File--Charles Mix Co., S.D.--Federal Land REcord) file was also helpful listing all the indian patents of the Yankton reservation area., including the patents Charles F. Picotte obtained (640 acres)in Yankton Co., establishing the basis for the town. I've pulled everything I could off the Yanton Sioux Tribe website.
During the 1980's two people were working on the Pedigree charts--Kathryn Theresa Ament-Achenbach (Sumner, Wa area) and a Dixie (nee Chambers) Malm of the Silverton, OR area...Dixie being a first cousin of my first wife who passed away in 1992. Anybody else out there?
