Back to the topographic maps, they are also available in metric measurements. The "miles" are smaller as the scale is reduced so you get more detail with the "old" topo maps. You should still be able to get both but I would prefer the "old" maps.
It's been a while since I've been there but you can get spectacular stuff from EROS (north of Sioux Falls). I don't have their home page on my new computer but you can probably order photos from them online.
