I just got my great grandfather's (Carl K. Olsen b. 14 Oct 1879 in Norway) land purchase/claim paperwork from the NARA yesterday, which included a copy of his Minor's Naturalization Record from Webster City, Hamilton Co., Iowa.
From the information given, he appeared in court on 3 Oct 1900....the county clerk and deputy both signed off on the form on 21 Aug 1908.
His land purchase/claim papers included a receipt(for land he bought in Meade County, South Dakota) that gave his address as Fort Dodge, Webster Co., Iowa in Aug. 1908.
The claim papers state that Carl built a home on his land(in Meade County)in January 1909, and that he moved into the home and took residence there on 4 February 1909. (Was a reference in these papers that he may have lived in Rapid City, Pennington Co., for a short time. He then went to work in Wasta, Pennington Co., while his wife went to work in Sturgis, Meade Co., to earn money for his homestead and to live on.)
These papers also state that he was living in Cooper, Meade County, South Dakota. Where exactly in Meade County is Cooper? I believe that this is where Carl's home was. He had 4 people as references when the claim was finalized that lived in Cooper, and they stated that Carl's property was very near to theirs. There was also mention of Brushie, Meade County, SD--where exactly is Brushie? Haven't found Cooper or Brushie on any maps of SD.
He was married, but have no information on his wife, other than that her first name may have been "Minnie". Do not know if they had any children together. Did Carl & Minnie divorce? Did something happen to Minnie?
If anyone out there has any information on Carl and his wife, or may be connected to them in any way, please email me direct at: email@example.com (that's 2 v's..looks like a 'w ')
Thank you, Valerie Reynolds
