The Republican of last week announced the serious illness of Mr. Samuel H. McMullen and it now becomes it sad duty to add the announcement of his death which took place on Tuesday evening, August 11, at 7:30.
The deceased was born in Northfield, IA on the 8th of June, 1852 and grew up to manhood and was married there. He then removed to Kansas and founded the county town of Washington. After a residence there of two years, he moved to this city, arriving in July 1880 and has since made his home here carring on extensively and successfully his business as a contractor and builder. About two years ago his greatly beloved wife died and the affliction has born heavily upon him ever since. He leaves one son, aged about six years, and parents and brothers to mourn their great loss.
He was highly esteemed in this community and universal sorrow is expressed over taking off in the prime of his manhood and usefulness. The ailment that caused his death was inflammation of the bowels. His funeral took place Wednesday afternoon, under the auspices of the order of Odd Fellows with services at Library Hall, conducted by Rev. J.I. Bartholomew, and burial in Plateau cemetary. His funeral was largely attended.
