Good morning.
-
Twenty years ago there were two Bruekelman children living in my town. I never knew them personally but the girl now lives in northwestern Iowa and her brother used to live in Sioux Falls. I won't directly give you an address, for privacy reasons, but you should be able to find them via www.switchboard.com . It's how I would get the addresses so I don't feel bad directing you to find them this way. Just type in South Dakota and Sioux Falls and Bruekelman and you'll find someone...I think.
-
You could e-mail the local library for the town(s) you are interested in. You should be able to get an e-mail address from the Sioux Falls library, www.siouxland.lib.sd.us . The Armour library should have an index of some sort, be it a jubilee (75 year celebration) or centennial book (100 years). These towns are not very old, and Armour might not be 100 years old yet.
-
I see one of the other e-mails referred to a marriage in Corsica, which is not far from Armour. And, I know some people who are from Corsica and they are of Dutch descent too.
-
There is a large Dutch population in northwest lowa. The towns of Orange City, Rock Valley, Rock Rapids and Sioux Center are predominantly Dutch communities. So, it is not surprising to me that your relative found a bride born in Iowa.
-
There is a book about Dutch emigration to the US, written by someone from Kent State University in Ohio. I knew his daughter but cannot remember his first name. It probably won't deal with indiviuals but you won't show an interest in it if you don't know it exists. The author's last name is Sweirenga.
-
That is about all I can think of for the moment. If I come up with any other ideas I'll write again. Ask me any questions you wish.
-
bye, dj
