Finding naturalization papers in South Dakota is a difficult task. At one time, an order came out to send all of the papers to Pierre, and some were sent in and others were not. Therefore, some of the papers are at the County Clerk of Courts / Magistrate's Office and others are in Pierre, but I'm not sure where.

Do you think that the person you're researching Homesteaded? If so, there should be proof of citizenship in the application papers at the National Archives.

On the other hand, you might be able to find when the person arrived from online censuses or Castle Garden or Ellis Island, also online.

Do you have the names of a married couple you are researching?
