Google BLM +"land patents" for the location of the Homesteads.
Lars CHRISTENSEN patented irregular parts, Twp. 112 N - R. 53 W, Section 12.
Mathias had three patents, Homestead was 112 - 53, 24 SW; also TC 112-53, 24 SE; SCE, 112-53, 25 NW.
Peter also had three, Homestead 112-53, 25 [S]; also TC 112-53, 25 NE; & SCE 112-53, in 25 & 26.
As you see, these were close to each other on the east edge of Township 112-53. That must be Badger because that's where Lars & "Mathis" were in 1900, on the same census page. Badger is on the Hamlin County line on the north and the Brookings County line on the east. The irregular locations of their land may be because of wetlands, south of Lake Albert, which is near Lake Poinsett.

In 1880, Kingsbury Co., SD, CHRISTIANSON, Lewis, 39; Mary, 38; Elsie, 5; Christ, 3; & Albert, 1 [Lars & Maren CHRISTENSEN].

Badger, Kingsbury Co., SD, 1900, CHRISTENSEN
Lars, b. Nov. 1841, he & parents b. Denmark, imm. 1870, m. 26 years
Wf. Maren, b. Apr. 1843, aged 57, she & parents b. Denmark, imm. 1874, had 6 ch., 4 living
Ch. b. SD: Christian, Aug. '76; Albert, Oct. '78; Anna, May '83; [adopted dau?] Else LARSEN, Nov. 1894, SD.
CHRISTENSEN, Mathis, b. Nov. 1848, he & parents b. Denmark, imm. 1870, m. 22 y.
Wf. Karan?, b. Je. 1858, she & parents b. Denmark, imm. 1878, 12 ch., 8 living
Ch. b. SD: son [Dalmar?], July 1879; Robert, Oct. '82; Johnny, Feb. '86; Albert, May '90; Anna, Je. '93; Winnie, Dec. '94; Clarence, Mar. 1896.

SD Births has the exact dates of some of the children. Those born before 1905 usually had delayed records because they applied for Social Security. I don't understand the records for Mathias CHRISTENSEN. He & Karen PEDERSON had Clara, b. 14 Mar. 1881. Mathias & Karen LEGAARD had Clarence, b. 3 Mar. 1896. That could be the same Karen, who changed from a patronymic name to a farm or place name. On the state census, Mathias, Lutheran, said he m. 1878, Carn PEDERSON.

Do you know the names of the wife and children of Peter? If he married Johanna MADSEN, then some of their children are on SD Births.

FindaGrave has in Poinsett Cem., Kingsbury Co., SD, CHRISTENSEN
Lars (25 Nov. 1841 - 27 Jan. 1913)
Maren (21 Apr. 1843 - 24 July 1921).
