John G.(George) Scurry was brother of my great-grandmother Mary Ann Scurry Hudson. He was child no. 2 of 13 children. Their parents were James George Scurry b. 2 Feb 1820 in Galway Ireland d. 14 Mar 1869 in Lynchburg, Va. m. Martha Constance Layne.Naturalization record states that he migrated 1 April 1830, admitted as citizen 5 Feb. 1849 in Lynchburg. Occupation stone mason, master mason. Book entitled Behind the Old Brick Wall about Lynchburg states "James Scurry, born in Ireland, who laid the cobble-stone streets that gave safe footing for the patient dray horses lugging their heavy loads up and down the steep streets of Lynchburg." Have copy of obituary of John G. Interesting man.
