I've found the information about Mary Scudder and Joseph Lathrop in a Scudder Association Bulletin XXX, compiled by Edwin L. Soper, the Association Genealogist. Unfortunately, he doesn't give Mary's parents. Knowing that the number of Scudders in the colonies at the time of Mary and Joseph's marriage was quite limited, maybe we can track down an answer. If Scudder was Mary's maiden name, then she could only have been a daughter or granddaughter of John Scudder of Barnstable, or of Thomas Scudder of Salem. I only know of four Marys that fit that. 1. Mary, born and died in 1649, daughter of John and Hannah Scudder (he's Elizabeth's brother). The information on her birth and death comes from Rev. Eli Cooley. 2. Mary, born abt 1660, daughter of Henry Scudder and Catherine Este, granddaughter of Thomas Scudder. She married Eliphalet Jones. 3. Mary, born 1648, daughter of John Scudder and Mary King, and granddaughter of Thomas Scudder. Don't know who or if she married. 4. Mary, born 1662/68, daughter of Thomas Scudder and Mary Ludlam, and granddaughter of Thomas Scudder. She married Robert Arthur. Based on this, and that Mary's maiden name was Scudder, Mary Scudder the daughter of John Scudder and Mary King is the likely spouse of Joseph Lathrop. What do you think?
