Scroggins Family Genealogy Forum

Ezekiel Scroggins Of Cocke County, TN was my Great Great Grandfather. I don't have a lot of information about him, other than knowing he was born in NC and moved to Tennessee sometime prior to 1840, and served in a Tennessee unit of the Confederate Army in the 1860's. I have a copy of his mustering out papers filed away somewhere in the house but not sure where I put it, or I could tell you when and the name of his unit, so he apparently was alive at least into the mid 1860's. At least two of his sons, Anderson C. Scroggins, and Caleb Scroggins moved to Texas sometime in the last quarter of the 1800's. Other siblings may have moved to Texas as well, but have no information showing they did. Anderson Scroggins was my Great Grandfather and settled around Allen, TX north of Dallas where my Grandfather, Floyd Scroggins, was born. Anderson died in 1935 in Bellevue, Clay County, TX and is buried in the cemetary there with his wife Katherin. At the time of his death, he split time living with my grandfather and his older brother, Walter Scroggins, who both lived around Bellevue where they had settled in the 1920's and farmed. I don't know what became of Caleb Scroggins after he got to Texas. I have no information concerning him other than the fact that he did move here around the same time as Anderson. I think that many of the family members were illiterate and simply lost contact with one another as they moved to different parts of the state in a time when the written word was the main means of communicating long distance.
