Kim Myers was kind enough to supply a hyper-link to part of William G. Scroggin's collection of Scroggins material. http://users.erols.com/scroggjm/scrogginsdata/wgs/scroggins10.pdf Mr. Scroggins included Richard Bingham's collection regarding part of Philip and Charity [Vardeman] Scroggins line. Mr. Bingham made the ASSUMPTION that Philip is the son of George Scroggins which might be true but hasn't been proven. Others with a Philip or Fielding Scroggins, born in Virginia or moved to Kentucky, Virginia, or New York who've posted their lineage on Rootsweb.com or Ancestry.com who've mistakenly included Philip Scroggins [born 1796 or 1800 in GA] as their ancestor. You are in error. Philip and Charity Scroggins moved from Jasper Co Ga to Tallapoosa Co Al and from there to Trinity/Nacogdoches/Angelina Counties Texas. Only two of their sons, which were not listed with them on 1850 Tallapoosa Co. Al census did not move with Philip and Charity to Texas. William Vardeman Scroggins [who witnessed a deed for his grandmother, Rachel Walker Vardeman] and Sylvanus Walker Scroggins [found in Union Co Arkansas]did not accompany their parents. Their son, John Henry Scroggins moved to Union/Conway Counties Arkansas to study Law. Their eldest daughter, Mary Ann Elizabeth Scroggins who'd married Quinton T Stevens/Stephens in Tallapoosa came with Philip and Charity to Trinity County, TX [see page 65/332] as they are listed on the same page. Their son, Fielding Scroggins had married Margaret Jane Hooker in Polk Co, TX in 1858. He is listed in Trinity Co TX, page 64 with their eldest son, Robert. I wish you luck in tracing your own family line and hate that you have wasted time following the wrong line. Respectfully, Linda Taylor Harris Notify Administrator about this message?
