I can?t confirm your assumption about Lucy Lawrence, but I can take you forward from William Scriven
The 1901 census shows William Scriven of Thatcham in Berkshire (then aged 67) as being married to Sarah Scriven aged 73 who was born in Marlborough Wiltshire. It lists two of his children as being in the same dwelling on the day of the census ? Lucy D, aged 26 and Mary F H aged 33, both born in Thatcham.
I can find no trace in the 1901 census of either Sidney R, Gertrude Sarah (listed as William?s son and daughter in 1881) or of William?s wife at the time, Lucy.I assume that the latter died and that William subsequently married Sarah.
Mary FH, who would have been around 13 at the time of the 1881 census, was presumably William and Lucy?s daughter. Her absence from the 1881 census record could be explained by her being absence from the dwelling on the day, but she is not recorded anywhere else in the census.
Also listed as being present in the dwelling on the day of the 1901 census was Fanny Lever, a widow aged 66 who like Sarah was born in Marlborough Wiltshire.
A William Scriven, aged 32 and born in Thatcham is recorded in the 1901 census as living in Sholing, Hants.I assume that he is William and Lucy?s son.He was married to Helena (age 30, born in Basingstoke Hants, maiden name not known). The census lists five of his children in the same dwelling ? Lucy (aged 6, born Blandford, Dorset), my grandfather William [Frederick] (aged 5, born Spetisbury, Dorset), Helena (aged 3, born Blandford, Dorset), Sydney (aged 2, born Blandford, Dorset) and Winefred (aged 1 month, born Worston Hants).
William Frederick married Grace Heath and had two children, William Sydney (my father, born 1922) and Dorothy.
Has anyone noticed how common the name William is Scriven families!
