Ludovic Grant and Eughootie/ Elizabeth Coody (Tassel)
I am trying to find out if there are any recent developments about the ancestry of Ludovic Grant (who was captured at Preston and banished to South Carolina for his participation in the Jacobite Rebellion) and his wife, Elizabeth Coody/Eughootie. I know from their union many Cherokees have claimed Scottish heritage.
Several possibilities have been floating around the Internet for Ludovic's ancestors.
1. This Ludovic is the 2nd Baronet of Dalvey.
2. Ludovic's lineage was:
Parents= William Grant + Katherine Gordon
Grandfather= William Grant of Conglass
Great-Grandfather= William Grant of Conglass
Great,great Grandparents= William Grant, a church elder in Inverurie + Elizabeth Leslie of Belquhain who was excommunicated for popery
Great, great, great Grandfather= John Grant
3. Ludovic's father was either James or John Grant and mother was a Katherine Dick (some have her as half Cherokee). Those who promote this parentage say that Ludovic's grandparents were Ludovic Grant and Janet Brodie
4. I have found one site that has suggested that Ludovic is a descendant of Patrick Grant of Ballindalloch, the twin brother of John Grant, Younger of Freuchie. Patrick and John Grant's father is Sir Duncan Grant, 12th Chief of Clan Grant and 1st of Freuchie. Their mother was a daughter of Leslie, Earl of Rothes. I have tried to find the descendants of Patrick Grant but most Grant info is focused on John, his twin brother.
For Elizabeth's heritage, the internet consistantly says that she is a daughter of Corntassel/Tassel/Old Tassel/Khayun Techea (various spellings of this), but few go beyond that. Is Old Tassel the same one that was murdered under a flag of truce? Also, I have seen her lineage traced back to Moytoy and Big Eagle.
Are any of these right? I need help.
